Bothwell is losing another retail store.

The Beer Store has announced the location there and nine others will be closing Aug. 24.

“Closing a retail store is never an easy decision – our stores and employees contribute to communities in many ways and provide easy access to empty returns throughout Ontario,” said Ozzie Ahmed, Vice President Retail of The Beer Store in a news release. Ahmed says the move is part of the modernization of the giant which has 13,000 customers across the province. The chain has 6,500 full and part-time workers.

“The Beer Store recognizes the contributions our employees make to the business. All efforts will be made to support employees through this process in alignment with commitments and agreements,” Ahmed said.

The closure is the latest blow for the community south of Dawn-Euphemia. Bothwell lost its LCBO store in 2021 after the roof of the building collapsed. Three buildings housing two businesses caught fire Jan. 17 leaving a pile of rubble on the town’s main street.
