More speeders nabbed in Lambton on the Civic weekend

August 11, 2025

If you were tapped for speeding in Lambton County over the Civic Long Weekend, you’re not alone.

West Region OPP officials say Lambton OPP officers laid 33 speeding charges over the weekend – double the number issued over the weekend in 2024.

In all, officers in southern Ontario laid 1,425 charges in 1,801 traffic stops.

Across the region, 625 speeding charges were laid compared to 699 in 2024. Police also laid 148 failure to wear a seatbelt charges – 40 more than last year – 10 distracted driving charges, 47 impaired driving charges and 19 failing to move over for emergency vehicles.

The campaign, which ran from Aug. 1 until Aug. 4, targeted the negative driving behaviours that contribute to traffic collision deaths, injuries and property damage on our roadways including speeding, failure to wear a seatbelt, distracted driving and impaired driving.

West Region members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) laid 1425 charges across the region during the Civic Holiday long weekend traffic campaign.
