Warwick, Enniskillen not part of wind project: developer

September 4, 2025

Heather Wright/The Independent

The leader of the Brooke-Alvinston/Adelaide-Metcalfe wind energy proposal says there will be no turbines in Warwick or Ennskillen Township.

In August, Adelaide-Metcalfe posted a map provided by Venfor Inc. of the proposal. It showed almost all the turbines in Brooke-Alvinston are north of the urban area, except for one, which is south of Petrolia. Eighteen of the turbines would be in Adelaide-Metcalfe.

The map also showed turbines in nearby Enniskillen and Warwick. Three were placed in each community. That’s raised a lot of questions with municipal officials from the area. Mayor Todd Case was surprised.

“We have not seen anything,” he said Aug. 19. Enniskillen Mayor Kevin Marriott was also unaware of Venfor’s map which is being widely circulated on social media.

Venfor’s Peter Budd discounted the map when The Independent asked about the possiblities Aug. 28.

“That would have been a very original map, which was an open minded concept stage. Some landowners in these two municipalities actually own land in some of…those municipalities. We’re not interested in going to those other municipalities, and (the turbines) are either deregistered or they’re not considered.”

Case was glad to hear the news but added;  “(It’s) pretty bad business on their part publicly releasing the wrong map.”

Budd wouldn’t speculate if he would be able to get a letter of support for the project in Brooke-Alvinston, which could have up to 20 turbines.

“I saw an opportunity…I asked the municipalities do you want a chance to earn basically close to a million dollars a year between a community benefits agreement and a taxation base that will escalate. If so, here’s an opportunity. And if you don’t, no problem,” he said.
