The Petrolia Squires have now won five straight Ontario Elite Hockey League games and six of their last seven following a 7-1 win over the Aeros in Dunnville Saturday.

Jakob Knowles turned aside 33 shots and Isaac McLean scored twice in the victory. 

Knowles and McLean were chosen as the first and second stars of the contest.

Colby Ackworth had a goal and three helpers for Petrolia while Daniel Gibson scored and added two assists. Gibson was selected the third star of the game.

Kaden Babcock, Carson Perry and TJ Harris also scored for the Squires.

Playing with just 11 skaters, Petrolia broke open a close contest with four unanswered goals in the final frame.  

The visitors had period leads of 2-1 and 3-1 prior to the third period outburst.

Jan. 23 at home, Petrolia got by Tavistock, 6-5 in overtime.

Kyler Keating had the game-winning goal at 3:28 of extra time.

Ryan Fraser led the Squires in regulation time with two goals and an assist while Curtis Helps, Eric Marsh and McLean also found the back of the net for Petrolia.

Perry and Corey Pawley both had two assists.

The Squires are now 14-5 on the season and will close out the regular season with game in Seaforth on Saturday.

Seaforth clinched first place in the division with a 4-1 win over Tavistock on the weekend.

The Centenaires are three points up on Petrolia with just one game to play.  

The Squires are three points up on the Erin Outlaws for second place in the standings. 

The Outlaws have two games remaining.
