Councillor reassured by interest in dormant Blue Point subdivision

March 15, 2026

Plympton-Wyoming Councillor Kristen Rodrigues is somewhat reassured a 15 year old development in Blue Point which is still vacant will soon improve.

Rodrigues brought concerns about Lake Huron Heights, formerly known as Blue Point Lookout, to council in February after learning the mortgage company is trying to sell the 22-acre subdivision under Power of Sale.

Lenders chose a Power of Sale when the borrower is defaulting on its loan. The borrowers can recover the property by paying the missed payments.

The property, which has a handful of spec houses along the mostly empty streets, is listed for over $3.6 million.

Realtor Sheana Lasenby says three of the homes have been sold since the mortgage holder took over in August.

When neighbours heard about the financial problems, they approached Rodrigues, concerned about state of the property, which the councillor calls unkempt. Rodrigues brought that to council.

Following an article in The Independent, the realtor reached out to Rodrigues to talk about the concerns stating in an email to the newspaper the company “maintained the property to all approved standards,” and adding the “mountain of dirt” Rodrigues referenced at council had been there long before the mortgagee took control of the property.

Rodrigues says after talking with the realtor, she’s some what reassured “there is some interest in the property to maybe do something with it initially.

“Everybody wants to just see this project move forward in some sort of positive way,” she said.

Rodrigues added the neighbours ongoing concerns should be directed to Lambton’s bylaw enforcement officers.

“There’s probably a lot of things that could be improved that have not been but that could be just that lack of communication to help get those standards enforced.”
