If you’re one of those people who can’t miss a text, even when you’re driving, Lambton OPP is looking for you.
Starting Friday, the detachment is part of the Stay Focused traffic enforcement campaign.
Police say in 2024, in 114 collisions, 125 people died; 45 of those deaths were linked to inattentive driving. There were 22 deaths linked to inattentive driving in 2026 and there have been two more in the West Region this year already.
Lambton OPP will conduct enhanced patrols targeting distracted driversfocusing on texting, phone use, and inattention behind the wheel.
Ontario’s distracted driving laws ban the use of handheld and entertainment devices, and viewing display screens unrelated to driving. You could be fined, receive demerit points, licence suspensions, and vehicle impoundment.
The campaign continues until Good Friday.
