The Mooretown Flags and East Lambton Eagles were ranked one and two in their age classification going into the OMHA tournament in Kingston on the weekend.
The teams lived up to that billing with the Flags prevailing 3-2 over the Eagles in double overtime to capture the coveted red hats on Sunday.
After a scoreless first period, the teams split goals in each of the second and third frames before the Flags won the championship trophy with a power play tally late in the fifth period.
Mooretown started the weekend slowly losing its opening game last Friday before rebounding for four straight victories; three by shutout. The Flags blanked Lindsay, 6-0 in the semi-final to punch its ticket to the final.
Ethan Rosseel scored twice for Mooretown, including the championship goal. Ewan Snedden had the other. Liam Lahey was the winning goaltender.
East Lambton advanced to the final with a thrilling overtime win in the semi-finals.
Meantime, East Lambton was a finalist in the under-15 tier one tournament falling 5-1 to Lindsay in the final. The Eagles reached the final with a 4-3 decision against South Muskoka in the semi-finals while Lindsay advanced with a 5-4 overtime win against Lambton Shores.
Elsewhere, Dresden won the under-11 tier one trophy beating the previously unbeaten Frontenac Flyers, 6-3 in the final and Wallaceburg has a finalist banner to its credit falling short 2-1 to the Bancroft in the under-13 tier one championship contest.
