Petrolia “in good position” by paying off loans

April 21, 2026

The Independent

By the end of 2027, the only loan Petrolia taxpayers will be paying is for the wastewater treatment plant.

According to the town staff report this year, taxpayers will pay $172,048 for loans taken out for six different departments over the year.

In 2027, only the payment on the loan for the Farmers’ Market and for renovations to the arena will be paid off. They drop off the books in 2027.

CAO Rick Charlebois calls that a “great thing.

“It’s taken us 15 years to get there. The only outstanding debt after that will be for water and wastewater system, and that’s going to 2037.”

That will be paid off at a rate of $531,999 each year.

“We’re in a good position that way on our long term debt,” says Charlebois.
