Heather Wright/The Independent

One month into the nomination period for municipal council, there are a few more people announcing their intentions to run for office.

Most notably, Kevin Marriott is looking for a fourth term as the mayor of Enniskillen township.

Marriott was elected as a councillor 1994. He held the position of deputy-mayor for seven years before becoming mayor in 2011 when Jim Burns stepped down as mayor. Marriott has been acclaimed as mayor ever since.

In 2020, Marriott was elected by his political peers as warden of Lambton County, a position he has held for six years.

Two current councillors, Judy Krall and Chad Burke have also filed for re-election.

In Plympton-Wyoming, sitting councillor Kristen Rodrigues has filed her papers for re-election.

She’s the only new entry into the race in the last two weeks.

In Brooke-Alvinston, Greg Hillyard has become the first person to file papers to run for councillor. He joins Jamie Armstrong on the nomination list. Armstrong is running to be mayor.

Incumbent Joe Manning has filed his papers, hoping to return as a Warwick Township councillor in the Oct. 26 election.

In Lambton Shores, Suzanne Shea has become the first person to file to run for a council position. Shea is a newcomer to politics.

The only other person who has filed in Lambton Shores is current Deputy Mayor Dan Sageman. He’s seeking to return to the deputy mayor’s chair.

A third person has joined the race for mayor in Sarnia. Scott Molson, a businessman with no political experience, joins current councillors Bill Dennis and Chrissy McRoberts in the race for the mayor’s chair.

Fifteen people have filed to run for city or city/county council seats.

Nominations are open until Aug. 21.
