Air quality warning issued for Sarnia-Lambton
June 5, 2026
FROM LAMBTON PUBLIC HEALTH
AN AIR QUALITY WARNING HAS BEEN ISSUED BY ENVIRONMENT CANADA FOR SARNIA-LAMBTON.
The Yellow Warning is issued when the Air Quality Health Index is forecast to reach the high risk category. This following a ‘Yellow Warning – Air Quality’ issued for Sarnia-Lambton by the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks and Environment and Climate Change Canada.
Lambton Public Health says certain groups are more likely to experience negative health effects from poor air quality; children, older adults, pregnant individuals, Indigenous people, people with chronic health conditions, people who smoke, people who are experiencing poverty, and those who work outdoors.
Public Health recommends you reduce or reschedule strenuous outdoor activities if you’re at risk.
Additional tips to protect your health during poor air quality include:
- Drink plenty of fluids, especially water.
- Reduce motorized vehicle use. Residents who live or work near Highway 402 should
take extra precautions, as air quality in this area can be affected by traffic and
prevailing wind conditions. - Keep windows closed, when possible (if indoor temperatures remain safe), use
HVAC systems set to recirculate air, or use a portable HEPA air cleaner. - Take care of your mental health. It is not unusual to feel anxious or stressed during poor air quality events. Local mental health supports are available online at Age-Friendly Sarnia-Lambton.
