Part of the Reece’s Corners to Wyoming trail will be under construction this summer.
The trail is more than a decade old and staff say it is beginning to show its age. They plan to reconstruct at least 500 metres this summer.
Town council approved a $101,000 contract to begin widening the trail on the west side of Oil Heritage Line during the May 26 council meeting.
“The trail will be rebuilt to a width of 2.5 metres, allowing for safe, multi-use transportation. During this time, staff will also begin clearing and widening the bush-covered area to enable continued construction northward in 2027,” wrote Paul daSilva, director of
public works in Plympton-Wyoming.
The contractor, Serv-con, is expected to begin the repaving in July or August.
But daSilva adds the full length of the trail could be completed this year if the town receives grant money. Staff applied for an Ontario Trillium grant to renew the trail and has yet to hear if the town will receive additional cash.
If the entire project is done, daSilva expects the total project cost to be around $300,000.
