Petrolia shifts some Canada Day events indoors

June 29, 2026

The Independent

This week’s extreme heat has prompted Petrolia officials to move some events indoors.

Environment Canada has issued a Heat Warning until Friday with temperatures climbing up to 36 C and the humidex values at 45 C.

Laurissa Ellsworth, director of marketing, arts and recreation for Petrolia, says because of the high temperatures the schedule has been adjusted. The Field of Fun Days will move into the Petrolia Y gym from 11:30 am to 2 pm.

The Splash Pad will stay open and the ribbon cutting of the new soccer field at Tank Street Heritage Field will be outdoors at 1″30 pm.

An Inflatables Race scheduled for 2 pm at Tank Street Heritage Field will be held at Greenwood Park at 8 pm in the hopes of cooler temperatures. The Re/Max Sarnia Realty hot air balloon will also be at Morrison field from 7 to 9 pm, weather permitting.

All of the town’s other events will remain as scheduled.
