The new arena floor has already been well used in Brooke-Alvinston, but there is still money to be raised to pay for it.
Brooke-Alvinston approved a nearly $2 million project at the arena in Alvinston last year. Work began in April and over the summer the pipes and the floor of the arena were replaced.
The facility reopened for minor hockey as planned after the annual fall fair.
Part of the project included raising up to $1 million in the community. Oct. 5, Brooke-Alvinston council
heard the fundraising effort have now surpassed $600,000, with more money coming in regularly.
The new equipment is being put through its paces. Officials say rentals at the Alvinston arena are solid with little unbooked ice time available.
Meantime, some councillors are thinking about the cost of ice time next year.
Councillor Craig Sanders asked that fees for the 2027 / 2028 ice season be discussed with the president of ELMHA well in advance and that increases should be expected.
