Four local Taekwondo athletes will vie for a spot on Team Canada on December 1 in Montreal at the Junior National Team Trials.

Gold medalists from this event will comprise Team Canada for the 2014 World Championships in Chinese Taipei this coming March.

Emilee Berdan has claimed the title of Provincial Champion funder 55kg or the past consecutive four years, also capturing national gold medals in 2009, 2010, a bronze in 2011 and a fourth-place finish in 2012. Lauren Anderson was the 2012-2013 Provincial Champion with a fourth-place finish at the national level in 2012 in the under 52 kg class.

Urvashi Thongam is a former Quebec provincial champion and 2012 Canadian National gold medalist in the under 49 kg division.

Jewelian Blackbird is a current national Cadet (12-14 yr old) team member moving up to the 15-17 yr old division for the first time, who captured a bronze medal for Canada at the 2013 Pan-American Championships.

Team Coach Master Mark Warburton was recently named the official team trainer for the 2014 Ontario Team.
