Wyoming Public School students spruce up Redick Park

May 30, 2014

Submitted story

Plympton-Wyoming Councilor Netty McEwen and Sue Jackson, a member of the Parks and Recreation Committee  went on a field trip Thursday with Mr. Brydges’s Grade 7 class from Wyoming Public School.

A couple of weeks ago, Brydges contacted me and told me he was interested in taking his class on a field trip to a local park to do a park cleanup and plant some bushes.  Council decided that Redick Park on Norman Street would be the ideal location.

The class walked from the school over to the park.  The students worked in groups of two and each group planted either a butterfly bush or a forget me not.  They measured out the area and each group dug a hole.  After the planting, the students walked through the park cleaning up any garbage and picking weeds.

“It was wonderful to see the students taking pride in their community and helping to keep our neighbourhood parks beautiful,” says Jackson.
