LCCVI Lancer Marissa Mueller has won OFSAA gold in javelin.

The Grade 11 student threw an even 42 meters at today’s event in Windsor to capture the Ontario title.

Mueller went into the two-day event ranked number one in senior girls javelin but told The Independent before she went, she was just thankful to be competing after a knee and then ankle injury stopped her from competing in triple and long jump.

“I try my best and always remembering I get to play; because I didn’t even know I would get to do sports because of the injury…especially with that being taken away from me for a while and not knowing if I would be able to compete, it makes me not take that for granted.”

Mueller had a little extra help. Olympic heptathlon hopeful Jillian Druin gave her a pair of her javelin shoes just this week as she was practicing at the Sarnia Track Club.
