Sarnia protest draws attention to racism in US and Canada
June 1, 2020
A couple of dozen people rallied around Sarnia City Hall Monday afternoon – a peaceful demonstration in support of Black Lives Matter.
Several US cities have seen days of rioting in the wake of the death of George Floyd. A Minneapolis police officer has been charged with third degree murder after video surfaced showing him kneeling on Floyd’s neck while Floyd told the officer he couldn’t breathe and begged for his life.
Some of the Sarnia signs also talked about racism against Canada’s First Nations.
Simone Tennant, one of the organizers of the event, is pictured here. Another peaceful protest is planned for June 13.
