One of two ferries at Sombra – The Daldean – headed out of port for the last time this morning.

The vessel had taken passengers from Sombra to Marine City, Michigan for over 70 years. But the Dalgety family, who owns Bluewater Ferry, had not been able to run the service for over a year.

An ice jam knocked out the only access to the business. The Dalgetys blamed the Canadian Coast Guard and are currently trying to recover damages in court.

But, the family decided to sell the ferry. It is headed to Boblo Island where it will be back in use. Watch the video taken by officials from the Sombra Museum of the ferry leaving Sombra for the last time at 5:39 am this morning.
