Twenty percent of Lambton residents have at least one COVID-19 shot

March 31, 2021

After a halting start, Lambton’s vaccination rollout is rolling.

Lambton Public Health reports Wednesday 23,042 doses of the COVID-19 vacine have now been given. Just 1,545 people in long term care homes have been fully vaccinated.

Public health says that means about 20 per cent of the people in Lambton have received at least one dose so far. A mass vaccination clinic in Point Edward is serving over 700 people per day. Once the vaccine supply becomes more stable, 2,500 vaccines will be administered a day.

And while the vaccination rate is increasing, the per capita rate of infection has declined slightly to 147 cases per 100,000 people in Lambton. That’s still the second highest rate of infection in the province.

Officials say 3.3 per cent of the tests done test positive for COVID-19.

Wednesday, public health reported 13 new cases with 179 people actively ill, down eight from yesterday.

And the number of variants of concern – which spread the virus faster – has grown from 99 Tuesday to 122 Wednesday.
