Highway 402 closing after transport crashes

February 17, 2022

Lambton OPP is dealing with a number of accidents on the 402 including a jack-knifed transport on Highway 402 near Oil Heritage Road and two transports collding near Mandaumin.

Heavy snow is in the area now and it’s affecting driving conditions.

The transport truck appears to be blocking both side of the highway and is causing traffic backups. There is also a collision at the Camlachie Road overpass at this hour.

The OPP is closing the 402 between Mandaumin and Oil Heritage Road.

Just before 4 pm, Environment Canada issued a Winter Storm Water.

Periods of freezing rain or ice pellets will transition completely over to snow this evening and quickly become heavy at times. Snow is expected to end early Friday morning.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow, says the warning. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break.
