Two people dead, another missing in Wallaceburg fire

February 17, 2022

Chatham-Kent fire officials say two people died in a house fire early this morning in Wallaceburg.

And another tenant is still missing.

Firefighters were called to Elgin Street around 2 am. Crews from Chatham and Wallaceburg responded and were on the scene in minutes.

Firefighters went into the burning building and found two people inside.

Fire Chief Chris Case says the building – the former home of former MPP Arthur St. Clair Gordon which is a heritage building – was divided into apartments.

One person was found in a lower apartment, another in an upper apartment. One man was pronounced dead at the scene, a woman was brought to hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Case says there is concern another person who lives in the building hasn’t been accounted for yet.

Firefighters are still on the scene and the Chatham-Kent Fire Prevention Team and the Office of the Fire Marshal are investigating.
