Zion Line fix costs 60 per cent more

July 3, 2022

Warwick will move ahead to repair Zion Line, even thought it will cost about 60 per cent more than originally anticipated.

In 2020, the township did a study on paved roads in the community. Zion Line was one of the roadways slated for improvement.

But recently, the condition of the road became worse after traffic was detoured on Zion Line around a protest which blocked Highway 402.

“The 402 occupation caused traffic to be re-routed and although heavy truck traffic was diverted to County Roads, there was an increase in truck traffic down Zion Line during this period that is the likely cause of the rapid deterioration,” wrote Treasurer Trevor Jarrett in a report to council.

Recently Spriet Engineering looked at the roadway again for the township and “now verify that the roadway condition for Zion Line has deteriorated significantly” since the road study, according to a report to council.

The engineers say the work will now cost $429,000, about $160,000 more than originally estimated. The money will come from reserves.

Why spend $20K to study a bridge to nowhere: McEwen

June 20, 2025

Heather Wright/The Independent Plympton-Wyoming Deputy Mayor Netty McEwen says it doesn’t make sense to spend $20,000 to study a bridge that goes nowhere.
