Killer Bees advance to second round

But Alvinston fails to make it to the Final Four of Kraft Hockeyville

The Alvinston Killer Bees rallied from three one-goal deficit to beat Petrolia, 6-4 Saturday in Western Ontario Super Hockey League playoff action. The Bees win the best-of-five series, three games to one.

Trailing 4-3 late in the second period, Ethan Lamoureaux tied the game with 3:40 to play in the second period sending the teams into the second intermission tied at 4.

Alex Cunningham scored what proved to the game-winning goal early in the third period. Killing off a late penalty, Aidan Preuter scored his second of the night into an empty net with one second on the clock to ice the victory for the Bees. Bayly Fryfogle had the other Alvinston goal. Jacob Chantler and Rylan Bowers each had two assists.

Nolan Dekoning was again stellar between the pipes for the Bees with 46 saves as the Squires outshot Alvinston, 50-30.

TJ Harris scored twice for Petrolia with a goal each going to Adam Arseneault and Ryan Trottier. Steve Farlow contributed three assists.

While the capacity crowd celebrated the Bees’ victory, there was a down note as Brooke-Alvinston was not chosen as one of the four finalists in Kraft Hockeyville 2024. The finalists were from B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan and Cochrane, in northern Ontario.
