Central Lambton gets ready for Canada Day

Central Lambton municipalities are gearing up to celebrate Canada’s birthday. But the prospect of rain has organizers watching the skies.

The Town of Petrolia has a host of events planned starting early – 7 am – in Bridgeview Park with a Kids Fishing Derby until 10. The Petrolia Legion is hosting a breakfast from 9:30 to 11:30 am.
Town officials will also be raising the flag at the Legion at 11 am.

There is baseball at Greenwood Park starting at 1:30 pm as well as games, and music starting at 3 pm.

The annual bed race will take place at 4 pm.

Bands start playing in Rock the Park at 3 pm until 11 pm. The featured performers will be The Action Figures, Night Circus, Rock Steaddy and the Justin Bacchus Band. Fireworks start at dusk.
Langs Bus Lines will be providing shuttles to Greenwood Park starting at 6 pm.

Brooke-Alvinston starts its Canada Day activities June 30 – Sunday – with an Ecumenical Church service. The Co-Ed Ball tournament starts at 1 pm and the Alvinston Aces play at 7 pm.
The Kids Ball Hockey Tournament starts at 9 am Canada Day and the Two-Pitch Tournament continues starting at 10 am.

At 11:45 am, there will be an official opening of the Canada Day events followed by a free hotdog lunch.

Local firefighters will have water fun for the kids and there will be inflatables on the grounds of the Brooke-Alvinston-Inwood Recreation Centre where all the activity takes place. There will be a barbecue chicken dinner – tickets sold in advance – and fireworks at dusk.

Both Warwick will hold Canada Day activities Saturday indoors at the East Lambton Community Complex. Plympton-Wyoming has cancelled its activities due to the forcast of rain.


Dawn-Euphemia’s fire hall in Rutherford will likely be filled to capacity again on Canada Day for the firefighters annual chicken barbecue. Tickets for the event are sold in advance.

And in Forest, the fun starts with a Chicken Dinner and music at Esli Dodge Conservation Area. The Excelsior Band and the Dan Speck Band are among the performers and there will lots of kids entertainment on hand as well

North Lambton Girls win senior basketball title
