Catholic director of education retires

The St. Clair District Catholic School Board is looking for a new director of education.

Scott Johnson announced his retirement at Tuesday night’s board meeting.

He began his career as an elementary teacher with the Halton Catholic District School Board
in 1992 and came to Sarnia in 2005 where he was an elementary and secondary
teacher, student success teacher, behavioural resource teacher, secondary vice-principal, elementary
principal, and superintendent of education. He became the director in 2021.

Johnson has served on a number local and professional boards as well as worked with the Diocese of London on educational issues. Johnson says his greatest accomplishment, however, is his family.

“Scott Johnson’s leadership has been a true blessing to our Catholic school community,” said Chair John VanHeck in a news release. “His unwavering commitment to faith, education, and the well-being of
our students has left an indelible mark on all of us… we are grateful for the legacy he leaves behind.”

Johnson will retire in March 2025.

Sidewalk projects around First Ave this summer

Aamjiwnaang evacuates parts of community as INEOS decommissioning increases benzene levels

Leaders of the Aamjiwnaang First Nation are evacuating residents between Churchill Road and Tashmoo Ave after high levels of benzene have been detected in the area.
