A year after flooding, Warwick gets some cash to pay for repairs
October 2, 2024
More than a year after flooding damaged homes and roads in Watford, the province is providing some funding to help Warwick Township deal with its costs.
Aug. 23, 2023 between five and eight inches of rain fell in a couple of hours. The water flooded basements, primarily in Watford and washed out roads.
Seven roads were closed, including Highway 402 between Kerwood and Watford because of the flooding. Zion Line needed to be rebuilt.
The province is providing $97,725 in provincial disaster recovery funding, to help the municipality with costs related to restoring services and repairing infrastructure damaged due to flooding. Mayor Todd Case said the municipality requested the provincial disaster fund cover about $125,000 in costs. He says Warwick is grateful for the help, but officials will be talking with officials from the program to see why the entire request was not approved
The township is expecting to receive more funding from the province for a flood 11 months later which washed out another road. Kingcourt Road is still closed as the township prepares to replace the culvert bridge there. Officials expect that will cost between $400,000 and $500,000.
