Two buildings destroyed in Marthaville fire

November 8, 2024

Two buildings were destroyed and at least two more were heavily damaged in a Marthaville fire.

Petrolia/North Enniskillen firefighters were called to Prince Street, just off Lasalle Line around 3 pm Friday.

When firefighters arrived, two people were on the property with a hydro wire arching overhead, according to Fire Chief Rick Cousins. The pair left the property as high winds coming from the west fuelled the blaze.

Fire raced through two-storey wooden building in minutes. Flames licked the nearby garage and soon, it too was engulfed and destroyed. Two nearby garages – one on the property and on the other side of a fence – had heavy damage to siding and the walls closest to the wooden barn.

Neighbours watched as both Petrolia and Wyoming firefighters worked to contain the blaze.

Cousins says no one was in the outbuildings at the time of the fire.

Firefighters are still on the scene and a cause of the blaze has yet to be determined.
