A couple of people and groups with ties to Petrolia and Central Lambton have been honoured by the mayor of Sarnia.
Each year, Mayor Mike Bradley releases a list of citizens and organizations which have contributed to the community. Those on the Mayor’s Honours List are later feted at a dinner.
This year Catriona Henderson was named to the list. She’s the first woman to become president of Petrolia’s St. Andrew’s Society. The formerly all-male organization celebrates Scotland’s history each year.
Bradley also recognized Sarnia-Lambton Rebound which has outreach programs in Central Lambton. For the past 40 years, the organization has “been a beacon of hope and support for the youth of Sarnia-Lambton,” the mayor said.
And the founder of Big Brothers and Big Sisters in Lambton, Brother Al Verstraaten, has been honoured posthumously. “He established a program offering crucial support to children to benefit from one-to-one mentoring relationships, often for children coming from single-parent, low-income households. His dedication has profoundly impacted countless lives,” Bradley said.
