Family fun in the works in Petrolia Feb. 15 to 17

The Town of Petrolia is preparing to celebrate families.

On the Family Day weekend, Feb. 15 to 17, the town has all kinds of events planned.

The annual snow sculpture contest is already underway. The town and the Central Lambton-Petrolia Optimists are looking for snow creations of woodland creatures until Feb. 17 at 4 pm.

Saturday, there will be free family fun with all kinds of games for the family – first at the Petrolia Y from 10 to noon.

Then at 1 pm, the gym is turned over to families for an Open Gym time which could include some three on three basketball.

From 11 am to 4 pm, the Petrolia Heritage Advisory Committee hosts its annual open house. The group is focusing on family stories this year with displays from historians. Bring your family’s artifacts for the Petrolia Camera Club to take photos of for the history books.

Sunday, the Petrolia Legion offers a breakfast. It’s a fundraiser for the organization and starts at 9 am.
There is more sports at the Petrolia Y Sunday from 10 to noon and at 1 pm for more family fun.
There is also free skating from 1:50 to 2:50 pm at the Greenwood Recreation Centre.

Monday – the Family Day holiday, New Life Assembly celebrates the day with a free breakfast between 8 and 10 am.

There will be two free swims at the Petrolia Y – from 10 to noon and again from 1 to 3 pm. While you’re there, your family can take advantage of the Bouncy Castles and games with the Lambton Central Petrolia Optimists from 10 to 2 pm.

And if swimming isn’t your thing, there is another free Family Public Skate from 11 am to 1 pm Monday.

The Petrolia Lions will also be offering family bingo starting from 3-5 pm.
