Four local athletes had the chance to show off their skills at the 2025 OFSAA Wrestling Championships in Kitchener on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Ellie Callister, Carson Toms, and Abbi White were the members of LCCVI’s team that qualified for the provincial meet. Anna Havryliuk was the lone representative for North Lambton Secondary School.

Callister (girls 51KG division), Havryliuk (girls 57.5KG division), and White (girls 64KG division) each took down their opponents in round one of the championship bracket before being beaten in the second round.

Callister ran into a tough competitor, falling to eventual silver medallist of the girls 51KG division, Tanam
Guro of Louise Arbour Secondary School in Brampton.

LCCVI’s Toms was competing in the boys 47.5KG division. He dropped his opening match in the championship bracket to Nathan DeVerteuil of Monsignor Doyle Catholic Secondary School in Cambridge.

With their losses in the championship bracket, the four local athletes were bumped down to the consolation bracket. The final four placement spots were up for grabs, with the highest spot being a third place finish.

Callister, Havryliuk, and White went directly into the second round because of their wins in the championship bracket. Toms joined them by getting his lone victory of the meet, winning by fall in round one of the consolation bracket.

Callister picked up her second win of the meet in round two while the other three athletes would bow out. Callister’s OFSAA run would come to an end in the next round with a loss against Mia Dufresne of Marymount Academy in Sudbury.

None of the wrestlers had an official placement because they didn’t finish in the top six of their division.
