Declan Watson has a new gold medal to his credit. 

The Northern secondary school student, from Plympton-Wyoming, won the men’s 79-kilo class at the Canadian Junior Weightlifting Championship in Saskatoon on the weekend.

His winning total of 265 kilograms included 120 kilos in the snatch category and 145 kilos in the clean and jerk.

Watson trains with the Burlington Barbell Club.

Meantime, LCCVI grad Marlowe Robinson of Sarnia’s Phoenix Weightlifting Club took fifth place in the women’s 63-kilo class with a total of 141 kilos. Teammates Mikaylie Robinson, competing in her first junior nationals, was sixth in her weight class with a total of 94 kilos. And, Joshua McLachlan set a personal best of 166 kilos in placing 13th in the men’s 79-kilo category. The Team Ontario head coach was Wyoming’s Larry Robinson.
