There will not be ATVs rumbling through Petrolia this summer.

Kelly Humphrey of the Petrolia Enniskillen Agricultural Society came to council in mid-May asking if PEAS could host an ATV rally with Greenwood Park as a starting and finishing point and using Petrolia streets to get to the starting and finishing point.

Julie Bullock, director of parks and recreation, in a report to council said Highway Traffic Act does not permit ATVs on roads unless there is a bylaw to permit them in the municipality.

In 2021, municipalities were asked if they wished to allow ATVs on their roads and Petrolia declined.

Bullock said the town could change its bylaw to allow the Ag Society to hold its rally, however that would mean would allow anyone to use ATVs in town.

Council turned down that option and declined to support an ATV rally fundraiser.
