Retirement, training deadlines leave Oil Springs without fire chief on July 1

Celebrating 160 years in Oil Springs
July 23, 2025
Oil Springs had a near perfect day to celebrate the village’s 160th anniversary. The community sprang to life when oil was found. A young boy on his tractor took in the parade. Councillors Wayne Wagner and Connie McFadden greeted the crowd Saturday morning. The Oil Springs Optimists were travelling down the parade route in style with a festive picnic table. Paw Patrol walked the parade route. The Forest Legion Pipe Band also entertained along the way. Dennis Robinson of Beaver Meadows brought his team of horses to Oil Springs for their parade. Fire departments from the area also joined in, including one unenthusiastic dalmatian who rode with South Enniskillen/Oil Springs department. During Saturday’s 160th Anniversary event, the Oil Springs Optimists paid tribute to John Ward, a long time member who was “the heart of the diamond.” Ward could be seen at the local diamond making sure it was in tip-top shape for the local ball players. Jackson Mitchell of Oil Springs pulled 192 feet in the Stock 800 lbs class in front of his hometown crowd in a mini tractor pull at the 160th anniversary celebration of Oil Springs Saturday.
