SPORTS BRIEFS: Wyoming ball players heading to nationals, Myers promoted by Tampa Bay

Wyoming flavour at national baseball tournament

A half dozen players with roots in Wyoming will suit up the Sarnia Brigade at the national 22u baseball championship this weekend in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

The group includes Jack Helps, Tyler Kerby, Kaden Gray, Caden Turnbull, Reid King and Cole Hudson.

Sarnia opens the tournament against Manitoba on Thursday morning.

Noah Myers has been promoted by Tampa Bay Rays.

Myers is off to a solid start with the Montgomery (Alabama) Biscuits in AA baseball.

The Wyoming minor baseball and Great Lakes Canadian grad was promoted last week by the Tampa Bay Rays. Myers is two-for-six in his first two games with the Biscuits with a double, walk, run scored and a stolen base. He’s hitting .333 with an OPS of .929.

Montgomery’s regular season continues until the end of this month.

Hunter Policchio needs to make room for a new championship plague.  The Petrolia golfer won the junior men’s championship this week at the Sarnia Golf and Curling Club.  Narisse Daye won the junior women’s championship.

James Grant set a new personal best with a fourth place finish in the men’s 1500 metre final at the Twilight Series at Hamilton’s McMaster University on Monday.  The Petrolia distance runner crossed the finish in a time of 3:51.53 just ahead of Sarnia’s Chase Capes

Grant and 14 teammates with the Sarnia Athletics Southwest Track and Field Club are competing at the Legion nationals in Calgary this weekend.
