PW hopes to extend business improvement program to Camlachie

August 25, 2025

Plympton-Wyoming is hoping to secure a grant to improve businesses in Camlachie.

Town council agreed Aug. 13 to apply for an Ontario Trillium Grant to extend the Community Improvement Program to the businesses in Camlachie.

Right now, only Wyoming businesses apply and Plympton-Wyoming’s Chief Administrative Officer, Adam Sobanski says it has been successful.

“Since the plan was put into place, there has been a number of façade improvements including a very successful restoration project at the southeast corner of Broadway Street and Main Street.

Mayor Gary Atkinson has said council wants more businesses to support the growing community. Most of the town’s growth is along the lakeshore.

Sobanski, in a report to council, says offering the grants to upgrade the facades of businesses in Camlachie “could help rejuvenate commercial interest in that area.”

And Sobanski says they hope to expand the program “to help enhance existing businesses while making the town more enticing for new businesses and patrons.”

Staff is considering some community improvements from other municipalities, which offer different solutions for business including grants to make buildings accessible, grants for lower taxes and grants to study Brownfield sites for development.

Sobanski submitted the application for the $100,000 grant hoping it would cover the entire cost of the program.

It’s not clear when the Trillium Foundation will reveal who receives the Seed grants.
