A municipal election is over a year away, but officials at the Town of Petrolia want to make sure you’re on the voters’ list.
Mandi Pearson, clerk and director of legal services for the town, says they’ve been going over the prospective voters list for a couple of months already and asking residents to check to make sure their on the list.
“We have always engaged the public about 18 months out to check their information, and also communicated for new folks to town to make sure they are on the list,” she says in an email to The Independent.
Residents can check to see if their on the list at the Ontario government website vreg.registertovoteon.ca
Pearson says the town will be going over the voters list until it is time to print the voters cards. But even after the cards are printed, it will not be too late to get onto the list.
If you realized you missed the deadline before voting day, simply call town hall to have your name added to the voters list.
On Election Day, Oct. 26, 2026, “the person will need to attend to town hall to complete this,” she says adding “we will of course be open during the full voting period that day.”
The town has decided to do away with paper ballots this year to go to a full online election.
For people who aren’t computer literate, town staff will be on hand at town hall to help.
