Lambton Shores is planning to replace the fuel storage tanks in the Grand Bend Harbour. But it needs the okay from Fisheries and Oceans Canada first.
The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada is studying the project which will see the storage tanks in the small craft harbour at the mouth of the Ausable River replaced.
According to the IAAC, the work will take place on federal lands where the existing underground storage tanks, fuel dispensers, and related piping will be removed and disposed of.
A new 25,000 litre above ground tank and fuel dispensers will be installed in the current location. Excavated fill material will be stockpiled for reuse at the site, any excess materials will be hauled to an approved facility.
Lambton Shores set aside $150,000 for engineering and decommissioning/removal of the existing tanks this year. It’s not clear what the cost of replacing the unit will be.
Written comments on the project can be emailed to Chris.McDermid@dfo-mpo.gc.ca until Nov. 27.
