The Alvinston Killer Bees and Six Nations Ironmen are tied up 1-1 in the Metro conference final after each team got a win on home ice this weekend.

Brandon Couto had both the tying and winning goal in the Killer Bees 4-2 win over the Ironmen in the first game in front of a hometown crowd on Saturday night.

Grant Spence got the Bees on the board with a little over five minutes left in the first period. Ethan Lamoureux and Ryan Gagner assisted.

Tyler Hill got the Ironmen on the board at the 8:58 mark of the second and about three minutes later, Theoren Hill – a former Sarnia Sting forward – got the go-ahead goal off the stick of his brother, Tyler.

With just two-and-a-half minutes left in the second, Couto tied the game off the stick of Sheldon Thompson and James McEwan.

Just over seven minutes into the third, Couto and Thompson combined again to take the lead. Steve Farlow also assisted.

Spence got the insurance marker with just 2:10 left in the game with Ethan Lamoureux and Jeff King assisting.

Joseph Raaymakers stopped 33 for Alvinston and was named the first star of the game. Couto was second star and Ironmen goalie Chris Hrabec was the third star after making 43 saves.

The Ironmen responded in game two of the series with a 4-3 victory over the Killer Bees on Sunday afternoon.

Alvinston jumped out to an early lead when Couto buried his third goal of the series.

Isaac Sooklal and Tyler Hill replied for the Ironmen with a pair of goals in the span of just over six minutes.

With the just over three minutes left in the opening frame, Jamie Schaafsma scored for the Killer Bees to send the two teams into the dressing room tied 2-2.

Six Nations took control in the second period with Tyler Hill scoring his second goal of the contest and Terry Bridgland tacking on one more to give the Ironmen a two goal lead.

Alvinston pulled back within one in the third period when Thompson found the back of the net on a power play with 7:47 left.

Hrabec held down the lead for Six Nations from there to help them even the series. He was named the first star of the game after making 40 saves.

Tyler Hill’s multi-goal performance earned him second star honours while Thompson was recognized with the third star after putting up a goal and an assist for the Killer Bees.

Kaden Fulcher was busy in the Bees net, making 40 saves in his first start since game four of Alvinston’s first round series against Tilbury.

The Killer Bees return to home ice for game three of the conference final on Thursday night at 8:30 pm.
