LCCVI will be getting an upgrade making the top floor accessible to students.
The Lambton Kent District School Board will have an elevator installed at the high school in Petrolia. Trustees considered two bids for the project at its March 31 meeting. The work will include the elevator installation, roof replacement and tech ventilation.
The lowest bid of $3.5 million was approved, which is below the amount budgeted at $3.9 million.
“Most of the heavy work will be taking place in the summer,” said Associate Director Brian McKay, but he suspected the new elevator installation might take longer into the next school year.
The elevator will be contained within the existing footprint of the school and even though it might take up portions of existing classrooms, it is not anticipated to take up much room.
