LCCVI wins ‘AA’ title at SWOSSAA Track and Field Championships

For the third consecutive year LCCVI has won the ‘AA’ team title at the SWOSSAA Track and Field Championships at Sandwich Secondary School in LaSalle.

Kole Chapman (Senior Boys 110m Hurdles), Kallee Elliott (Novice Girls High Jump), Liam Hackett (Novice Boys 300m Hurdles), Rayah Minten (Novice Girls Shot Put), and Jonah Wagner (Novice Boys Long Jump) were among the Lancer athletes to win their events to advance them to the OFSAA West Regional Track and Field Championships in Cambridge May 28 and 29.

LCCVI has eight athletes who will competing at multiple events in Cambridge after finishing top five in their SWOSSAA events.

Chapman will also compete in the Senior Boys 400m Hurdles after finishing second and Wagner will take part in the Novice Boys Triple Jump after placing fourth.

It was a good event for the Lancer hurdlers with Meagan Munro finishing top five in the Senior Girls 100m Hurdles and 400m Hurdles, Xander Knapp placing fourth in the Junior Boys 100m Hurdles and fifth in the 300m Hurdles, Khloe Barron finishing fourth in the Novice Girls 300m Hurdles, Elliott placing fourth in the Novice Girls 80m Hurdles, and Rhys Marriott finishing fourth in the Novice Boys 300m Hurdles.

James Grant will represent LCCVI in the long distances races after finishing third in the Senior Boys 1500m and fourth in the Senior Boys 400m.

Grant, Barron, Chapman, and Munro were the lone relay to advance with a fourth place finish in the mixed 4 x 400m relay.

Jaylen Helps, who was the Novice Girls Individual Champion at LKSSAA meet, had a pair of second place finishes in Novice Girls Discus and Javelin.

Spencer Horwood was the final Lancer thrower to punch his ticket to the West Regional with a second place finish in Senior Boys Shot Put.

Colin Tweedy and Calvin Van Stempvoort will both represent LCCVI in Novice Boys High Jump after placing second and third respectively.

North Lambton will have four representatives at the West Regional in Cambridge.

Arie Roelands will be featured in a pair of events after finishing second in Junior Boys High Jump and Pole Vault.

Arlee Roder will fly the Eagles flag in the Novice Girls 800m and 400m after placing fourth and fifth in those respective races.

Josh Smith will represent North Lambton in both the Boys 100m and 800m Intellectual races after finishing fourth in each event at SWOSSAA.

Skyla Willemse rounds out the field for the Eagles after finishing fourth in the Junior Girls 800m.

Julia Pegg and Anthony Hopkins are the two athletes who will be headed to the West Regional for Lambton-Kent.

Pegg had a pair of top three finishes in Senior Girls High Jump and Long Jump.

Hopkins placed third in Novice Boys Discus with a throw of 34.82m.

Camlachie’s Keala Pickard, Enniskillen’s Rachel Burns, and Mooretown’s Camryn Leitch were among the other local athletes to advance to the West Regional.

Pickard will represent St. Pat’s in the long distances races after finishing in the top three in the Junior Girls 800m, 1500m, and 3000m. She was also on the Girls 4 x 400m relay team that placed third.

Leitch picked up a pair of victories for Great Lakes, winning Junior Girls Discus and Javelin. She placed third in Junior Girls Shot Put.

Burns will be in a pair of events in Cambridge after finishing second in Senior Girls Shot Put and third in Senior Girls Discus.
