Oil Springs receives $81K for recreation project as Alix Foundation grants awarded

There will soon be more recreation options in Oil Springs thanks to the Judith and Norman Alix Foundation.
The village has received a $81,300 grant to turn a little used skate park at the Youth Centre into a multi-use court for pickleball, tennis and basketball. The project also includes new lights for the baseball field.
The grant was one of the largest among 15 projects which is receiving money from the foundation.
The Alix Foundation will also provide $128,000 to St. Vincent de Paul for renovations to the organizations Vidal Street location and $100,000 for the Bright’s Grove Library Expansion project, earmarked for the lobby entrance renovation.
Lambton Shores is also getting a substainial grant to build a permanent outdoor stage in the new Forest Parkette. The foundation has granted $75,000 to the project.
Over 30 years, the foundation has provided more than $9.3 million to over 75 community projects all over Lambton County.
Here’s the full list of the projects receiving funding this year.
- $19,983 to PointSar Marine Rescue for rescue boat on board communication system.
- $3,500 to Kiwanis, Corunna for a public mural on the Corunna Library.
- $24,000 to the Friends of Pinery Park to purchase the DiscoveryON the Go Trailer.
- $25,000 to the Moore Agricultural Society for improvements to the sound system at the
Brigden Fairgrounds. - $60,000 to Sarnia-Lambton Community Concerns for the Medically Fragile for the
purchase of a new van. - $81,300 to The Village of Oil Springs to repurpose the Skate park into a multi-use area
for pickleball, tennis and basketball, and the installation of new lights for the baseball
field. - $15,000 to Theatre Sarnia for theatre lighting and audio control.
- $100,000 to Gallery in the Grove for the Brights Grove Library Expansion Project lobby
entrance renovation. - $75,000 to Lambton Shores for the construction of a permanent outdoor stage within
the Forest Parkette. - $128,000 to St. Vincent de Paul for renovations to the Vidal Street location.
- $50,000 to the Inn of the Good Shepherd to purchase a new cargo van.
- $10,000 to Special Olympics Sarnia to replace and increase the number of Sarnia Heat
basketball team uniforms. - $25,000 to Victim Services for renovations to the reception and intake areas.
- $94,000 to BGC (formerly the Boys and Girls Club) for the purchase of a new van and
facility renovations. - $5,000 to March of Dimes for renovations to at Standing Oaks.
