The Northern Tornado Project says an EF0 tornado touched down in Dawn-Euphemia during heavy storms Friday.
The researchers from the University of Western Ontario confirmed the tornado Monday. EF-0 tornadoes are ‘weak’ and usually winds reach between 105 and 137 kilometres per hour.
Around 1 am, heavy thunderstorms and rain began moving across the region. At the onset of the storm in Windsor, winds were clocked at 95 km/h.
Sarnia recorded the highest rainfall totals in the region with 29 mm, while Chatham-Kent saw over 20 mm.
In Croton, a farm outbuilding was damaged and a number of trees and large branches were knocked down in the area. Researchers also tracked the vortex’s path through cornfields.
Croton wasn’t the only community hit by an EF0 storm. NTP officials say there was a downburst on Walpole Island where a communications tower collapsed and shingles were blown off roofs. There was also a downburst in Blenheim. The EF0 also took off shingles from commercial buildings and took down trees and large branches.
