A former LCCVI principal has thrown his hat into the ring for Petrolia council.

Greg Nemcek filed to run for a councillor’s position Monday. Nemcek retired last year and currently is the chair of the Lambton OPP Detatchment Group board. He’s one of five people running for the councillor seats – only one candidate, Bill Clark, is an incumbent.

Nemcek is one of a handful of people who have added their names to the list of nominated municipal election candidates for the October election.

In Plympton-Wyoming, incumbent John Van Klaveren filed his papers to run for his second term on council. John Lepore is also running for a councillor’s position, becoming the eighth person to run for one of five councillor positions in the town.

In Lambton Shores, there are two more candidates; Dave Marsh in Ward 6 and incumbent Jeff Wilcox in Ward 7. Three of the wards in the municipality have no nominated candidates with about a month left to announce your candidacy.

In Brooke-Alvinston; there is a second candidate for mayor. Tom Scott will face Jamie Armstrong in the Oct. 26 vote. The 75 year-old former Alvinston councillor ran for mayor in 2018 and lost to current mayor, David Ferguson.

There are two new names on the list of candidates registered for council; incumbent Jenny Redick has filed to run for a second term on council. Newcomer Dianne MacDougall has also filed her papers for a councillor’s position.

Another newcomer is running Enniskillen Township; Jason Armstrong has filed his papers for a seat on council.

And in Sarnia, incumbent Terry Burrell is running for council again. If he is re-elected Burrell will be in his 13 term of office and by the end of the term will have served 52 years in municipal politics.

Three other names have been added to the list of candidates nominated for the Sarnia city councillor seats including Tony Marshal, Briana Ried and Hari Srinivasan.

Nominations for the Oct. 26 election close Aug. 21.
