Petrolia looking for home for oil derrick
December 12, 2013
The Town of Petrolia is looking for a home for an oil derrick.
Town council agreed to move ahead on a new entrance sign at its Monday meeting. It will be placed at the corner of Petrolia and Discovery Line where the current sign, complete with a steel replica oil derrick, stands.
“Pride Signs will start making the sign over the winter with the hope of a spring installation,” says Dave Menzies, director of community services. “We’ll also be making a recommendation on the large steel derrick out there. We’re looking for another location for that.”
Menzies says there have been a few ideas considered including the Oil Heritage District Community Centre or Bridgeview Park, but a location has not been picked yet.
“It will not be turned into scrap,” he reiterated, “it will be used at a structure in town.”
