The OPP is warning drivers to be attentive in winter weather after a cruiser was struck by a pickup.

Tuesday morning, OPP officers were investigating an accident on Highway 40 south of Confederation in Sarnia. The cruiser was stopped and had its lights on while officers investigated. The officer was in the marked cruiser when the vehicle was hit by a pickup truck. There was minimal damage and there were no injuries reported at the time.

Police are still investigating the accident and haven’t decided on charges.

“Drivers play an important role in keeping roads and highways safe; the winter months are a particularly important time to stay focused on the road and on other vehicles,” says Const. Chris Doupe in a news release. “Slow down, stay alert and stay in control – these simple steps will go a long way in reducing the number of winter weather-related collisions on our roadways.”

“The Lambton OPP is working diligently to keep our roads safe this winter. We are counting on drivers to do the same.  Please safely approach all emergent responders while they are working on our roadways.”
