After the initial fire, crews worked to put out flames shooting through the roof and went inside the home.

Just before 11am, Terry May’s granddaughter was walking down Queen Street beside LCCVI when she noticed flames in the window of a two-storey home. She rushed to May’s house and told them about the fire. May ran to his neighbours and went around to the back door where he found the middle-aged woman lying on her kitchen floor as if she had fallen.

May believes she was trying to make her way out the back door when she collapsed. The retired Oil Springs firefighter dragged her out of the home. May says she was breathing but not coherent and her face was covered in black smoke. Lambton OPP say the woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

At noon, firefighters from Petrolia/North Enniskillen, Oil Springs and Wyoming were still on the scene. The front of the home was completely charred and flames were shooting out from under the roof at times.

Police and firefighters have the street between Dufferin and Princess blocked off as they deal with the fire.

Firefighters from Petrolia/North Enniskillen, Oil Springs and Wyoming helped bring the fire under control.
