No kids day at the circus in Alvinston and Watford

May 8, 2016

It seems the circus is not coming to town after all.

Brooke-Alvinston and Warwick both agreed to host the Polack Bro. Circus in mid-May after being contacted by the Florida-based company over the winter months. After being assured the company was legitimate, both municipal councils agreed to provide space for the one day event which would including tumbling acts, a dog show and clowns.

In Brooke-Alvinston, the event was supposed to be a fundraiser for the Brooke-Alvinston-Watford Fair.

But as the time grew closer and local organizers tried to reach the company to talk about ticket sales, it became obvious there was a problem, according to Brooke-Alvinston Clerk Janet Denkers. The company’s website said all the shows had been suspended.

“The circus shows are all on hold,” she told council. “We can’t get a hold of the people.”

The Polack site has now been named The Great Benjamin’s Circus and dates for events have been scheduled in the US for the times they were to appear in Lambton County.

Denkers says the only positive is no one locally is out any money because of the cancellation.
