Elementary students in Lambton-Kent out of class Monday and Tuesday
February 12, 2020
It seems elementary school students in Petrolia and Central Lambton will be off school again.
The Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario says teachers in Lambton-Kent will be on the picket line Monday and Tuesday if a contract isn’t reached by then. There are no talks scheduled right now.
Four teachers union, including ETFO, have escalated job action as they try to reach an agreement with the provincial government. The unions say they want the province to back down on plans to increase class sizes, put more money into special education and scrap a plan to make online learning mandatory.
Education Minister Stephen Lecce says this is simply about money. The province imposed a one per cent public service pay increase this year. The unions are looking for 1.9 per cent, which is the cost of living.
Elementary teachers were also out on the picket line two days this week.
