The employees at Waterville TG in Petrolia will be off for the next week in a move management hope will help stop the spread of COVID-19.

In a news release issued Friday, officials say our customers have decided to temporarily cease their operations in order to participate in the worldwide collective effort to stop the spread of COVID-19. So Waterville employees will be off work until March 30.

Up to 500 people work at the plant.

“We are aware that this measure has significant financial impacts, and we are working to find alternatives to try to reduce the impact on our employees,” says Marie-Douce Pellerin, Human Resources GM.

“My management committee and I are not making corporate decisions anymore, but we are ensuring that each of our decisions assures the maximum protection of our employees and of the population,” adds Benoît Tétreault, the Waterville TG President.

Officials say they’ll review the information every day.
