Show mom some love from a distance says medical officer of health
May 8, 2020
Lambton’s medical officer of health says it is okay to show mom some love this Mother’s Day but he’s asking you to keep your distance.
Dr. Sudit Ranade says there are lots of “ways to convey the emotions around Mother’s Day” including dropping flowers on a doorstep or visiting through a window for those who may be particularly vulnerable to the COVID-19 virus.
“If there is someone with underlying illness…who is vulnerable…they need to be protected.”
But he says a visit with mom in the back yard staying six feet apart would be okay making sure you “achieve the physical distancing.
“Save the (family) gatherings you may have for later.”
In Lambton 193 people have tested positive for COVID-19. Sixteen have died and another 127 have recovered. Fifteen per cent of the people who tested positive work in health care. Seven people who have the virus are still in hospital. Eleven others have symptoms but have not received test results back.
In all, 3,650 people have been screened in Lambton County, including all residents and staff of nursing homes in the county.
